The St. Joseph, Placentia, Knights of Columbus Council #10287 has selected the Kay Faley family as Family of the Month for April 2019. Kay Faley and Family have been active members of St. Joseph Church for over 51 years. She and her husband Jack, who passed away in 2015, have eight children and sixteen grandchildren. The Faley Children present here today are Patricia, Michael, James and Mary Ann. Three of the children live out of town and were unable to attend. They are Timothy, Terrence and Daniel. Also, Kathleen, a Daughter, has passed away and is not with us today. The Faley Family are well known for hosting the Annual Faley Games that are held every year at California State University, Fullerton. These games have expanded to include Goodwill of Orange County and Cal State University and are now known as the Kathleen E. & Jack Faley Memorial Games. They include thousands of developmentally disabled students of all disabilities from schools in Orange County who participate in a day of non-competitive games each year. The Faley Family children all attended St. Joseph School and graduated from either Rosary or Servite High Schools. Jack and Kay were involved in numerous ministries over many years. Jack was an usher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Kay served as an Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion and was involved in prayer groups and Children Faith formation. The Faley Family has been involved for many years giving of their time and talent to the Ministries of St. Joseph Parish and our community.
The Knights of Columbus have always been interested in the development of strong, vibrant families. In support of this philosophy and to create an even greater awareness of our many fine Catholic families, the Supreme Council instituted the “Family of the Month” Program in 1978. Since that time the “Family of the Month” Program has grown to be one of the Order’s most successful. St. Joseph Council started the Program to recognize and honor the outstanding Catholic families in our parish. At the beginning of each month, the Knights of Columbus will select a Family of the Month and present to them a statue of the Holy Family to display in their homes for that month. Included in the presentation is a certificate recognizing the family and a prayer to the Holy Family by Pope Francis. The Family of the Month is requested to gather together daily as a family and pray for the intentions of St. Joseph Parish.
