As followers of Jesus Christ, the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that Baptism makes one a member of the Body of Christ and prepares one for the reception of the other sacraments. The Eucharist gives one the "food of eternal life" (John 6:54), and allows one to have communion with Jesus and our brothers and sisters in Christ. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ. The effects of Confirmation bring an increase and deepening of baptismal grace:
It roots us more deeply in the divine filiation becoming adopted sons and daughters of God which makes us cry, “Abba! Father!”
It unites us more firmly to Christ
It increases the gifs of the Holy Spirit in us
It renders our bond with the Church more perfect
It gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross – CCC, no 1303
